Walking Curiousities

Lunenburg County SocialWalks

SocialWalks - In the Grass Below to the Night Skies Above, $58 / 2hrs

Three intensities (which we’re piloting this fall, after the school year resumes):

- One for families and those with diverse life skills, adaptive learning needs, and varied abilities, or prefer lower sensory environments
- One for everyday intrepid explorers, geared towards their natural curiousities
- The last our favourite: search the land, search the water, search the skies. If it creeps, crawls, flies or swims, we’ll be getting wet, dirty, or at least wearing good boots. Knowledge is power, and we’re down to use for some KCOFGS to get some awesome pics: in their habitat, on their terms.

Program:

A hands-on exploration of the wonders of life right beneath our noses, to the Milky Way above. A chance to be curious, wonder more, see a connection, and be at one with the wonders of life - exploring them richly and freely on your terms.

By day’s end, you’ll take home a new perspective and our list of free resources to play with, research or use yourself at home. Hopefully, some great photos, videos and memories too of something you’ve never noticed before.

Social Walks - Time Travel: Big Day Out Lunenburg, $88 / 3hrs

(Also piloting this fall after the school year resumes):

Preview: Here we’ll be blending story and science as we crawl, walk, march and clambour around the county time travelling. Not with one map but four: one with Mi'kmaq place names from time immemorial, The French and English ones from their colonial periods and the last a contemporary.

Workers, warriors, women, pirates, rum-runners, soldiers and innocents all caught up between worlds of change. We’ll visit cemetaries and a fort, but also places looking very modern with glimpses if you know where to look. The technology, the people and the times are different. If we look closely enough we can explore these using different lenses, resources and free tools available to all.

So you can do the same things yourself exploring Cartagena, Chichen Itza, the Colosseum or Crousetown and beyond.

“I gave Rob a little of our family background the day before the tour.

He researched our family’s participation and emphasized it throughout the tour. It was hard work for him and very special for us.

He is engaging and attentive to group needs. I highly recommend him.”

“Robert’s passion and knowledge about history was amazing. He willingly created the walking tour to suit the needs of my husband and myself. Even though there had recently been a pandemic, we felt safe with him as our personal tour guide.

We have visited many times before, but this was the first time that we felt connected to the place’s rich history thanks to Robert.

He shared hidden architectural gems and gave a comprehensive description of the city’s founders. He brought alive the culture and historical relevance of the place in its infancy. Walking around the battlefields and learning more about the Underground Railroad and the rarely discussed heroes was enlightening.

“This tour was amazing! Going into it I didn’t know what to expect but Rob excelled in explaining things, ensured to keep it interactive and gave us a broad variety of history.

Rob went above and beyond providing us extra information about things to do and local farm stands and went as far as researching a question my fiancé had from the tour and providing us that information.

I would recommend this to anyone I know, history lovers or not.

“Rob weds a librarian’s love of research and knowledge with a writer’s: penchant for words, adds a bit of eccentricity and storytelling to: deliver an engaging, fast-paced 90-plus minutes of little-known: history for a pair of Americans.

His passion shines through, even in: the follow up he generously provides to answer questions and continue: the chat. I highly recommend it.”
